Protein

Protein from foods, along with regular physical activity, helps with growth and the maintenance of healthy muscles, which are important to allow us to be active.

Protein is available from foods like red meat, chicken, fish, milk, legumes, soy products, dairy products and some grains.

Kellogg’s® Special K® and Kellogg’s® Nutri-Grain® are examples of high protein breakfast cereals.

How much do I need?

The Recommended Dietary Intake (RDI) for protein is 64g per day for males and 46g per day for females.

Also, contrary to common belief high protein diets will not build bigger muscles. Any excess kilojoules, even from protein, can lead to an increase in body fat. Protein should provide between 15-25% of total energy (kilojoule (kj)) intake per day.
