Very High in Fibre Kellogg’s® Sultana Bran Buds® cereal is very high in fibre and a nutritious way to start the day. In fact one 45g serve contains 24% of the recommended daily intake of fibre, making it a great breakfast choice
The importance of fibre:
- High fibre foods are more satisfying and can help keep you feeling fuller between meals.
- Fibre helps keep kids healthy on the inside and helps maintain a healthy digestive system.
How much fibre?
Recent recommendations published by the Australian & New Zealand governments, have recommended minimum adequate intakes of 30g per day for adult males and 25g per day for adult females. Based on current information about how much fibre Australians are eating, most people need to increase their fibre intake. Children and teenagers should consume a little less fibre than adults. For example, a 4-8 year old child needs around 18g fibre per day.
The table below outlines the fibre needs for children aged between 1 and 18 years.
Recommended Fibre Intake [g/day] | | | | Age [years] | Boys | Girls | | 1-3 | 14 | 14 | | 4-8 | 18 | 18 | | 9-13 | 24 | 20 | | 14-18 | 28 | 22 |

Fun For Snacking Bring your Buds to school Snacking can be a healthy way for young children to get the nourishment they need during the day.
With small stomachs and high energy levels, ‘little and often’ can be one of the best ways.
Eating little and often can be beneficial for young children, particularly smaller ones who might struggle with a full sized plate of food.
Of course, what they snack on has effects on their nutrition and health. There’s no reason why snacks of fresh and dried fruit, vegetable sticks, cheese, cereal and cereal bars, low fat yoghurts and bread products shouldn’t help to provide the nutrients their growing bodies need. Sultana Bran Buds® cereal is an ideal snack for kids. It's nutritious, very high in fibre, bite sized and delicious, making an excellent choice for school lunchboxes or as an after school snack. |
Importance of Breakfast Give your kids a head start with breakfast!
Breakfast is a very important meal of the day. A good breakfast can provide your children with energy to give their bodies and brains a morning boost and helps get them ready for the day ahead. It also provides other important nutrients that their bodies need for good health, such as carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins and minerals. So don’t let them go to school without it. Despite knowing how important breakfast is many children are still going without it for one reason or another. Breakfast, as the word suggests, literally means ‘breaking the fast’. After going 10–12 hours overnight without food, children’s energy reserves are low and their bodies and perhaps more importantly their brains, need fuel. What’s more, scientists have tested the effects of breakfast, and they have found that eating breakfast versus skipping breakfast does make a difference to school and work related performance.
